News and What Not.

Forbes released a list of The 20 Most Memorable Moments in TV News today and I can't help but wonder if anyone really remembers these moments first hand or, like we're all wont, we remember them as a collection of after-the-breaking-news-y-ness-has-ended video essays.

Ever in my rush to criticize others, I have reproduced the list below and have noted if I remember seeing the information on the news or not, in an effort to encourage others to be honest about their own "remember when moments."

1. September 11 attacks, 2001-- I heard about it on the bus to college; I watched the tv reports throughout the coming weeks. :-/

2. Hurricane Katrina—the levees break, 2005-- I remember the news coverage; I don't remember watching it live.

3. OJ Simpson murder verdict, 1995-- My 7th grade math teacher announced the verdict after she heard it on the radio.

4. Challenger space shuttle disaster, 1986-- Um.  I wasn't even 3 yet.  But I did like the "Very Special Episode of Punky Brewster"

5. Death of Osama bin Laden, 2011-- Damn right, I remember; bastard cut into an episode of the Amazing Race!

6. OJ Simpson high-speed car chase, 1994-- Watched it live.  I was in 5th grade.

7. Earthquake/tsunami in Japan, 2011--Yes!  I woke up to the news before I went to work.

8. Columbine school shooting, 1999-- i was a Sophomore in high school, I heard about it at school.

9. BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, 2010-- I didn't see it live, but I saw it on the evening news.

10. Funeral of Princess Diana, 1997-- I watched part of it live before pooping out.

11. Death of Whitney Houston, 2012-- Yes!

12. Capture and execution of Saddam Hussein, 2006-- I remember seeing it on the news, but I don't think I saw the breaking news headlines.

13. Barack Obama acceptance speech, 2008-- I went to sleep right after they called the elected for Obama.

14. Prince William, Kate Middleton wedding, 2011-- Watched it live!

15. Assassination of John F. Kennedy, 1963-- My mother was only a couple of months old!

16. Oklahoma City bombing, 1995-- I believe I may have been on vacation from school when this happened because I do remember hearing about it on the noon-time news.  I do remember watching the Branch Davidian complex burn after the ATF raid live on TV, though.

17. Bush/Gore election results, 2000-- I was a senior in high school, so I remember hearing it on the evening news, not as breaking news.

18. Los Angeles riots/Rodney King beating, 1992-- I was in school when that happened, 3rd grade, I believe.

19. Casey Anthony murder trial verdict, 2011-- I believe I was at work when this one came down; in any event, I read about it online in disbelief.

20. Funeral of John F. Kennedy, 1963-- my mother was only a couple of months old then!

So, kids.  What do you honestly remember watching live, eh?
